Low testosterone, often called “Low T,” occurs when testosterone levels are lower than expected for a man’s age and clinical situation. Testosterone plays an important role in energy, muscle mass, bone health, mood, sexual function, and overall well-being. Symptoms may include low energy, decreased strength or muscle mass, increased body fat, reduced libido, erectile difficulties, changes in mood, difficulty concentrating, and reduced motivation.
Global and U.S. estimates show that low testosterone affects roughly 10% to 40% of adult men overall.
See below for the ADAM (Androgen Deficiency in the Aging Male) questionaire. This is the most commonly used clinical screening tool for low testosterone.
If you answered "yes" to questions 1 or 7 or if you answered "yes" to three or more questions, you may have low testosterone.
